The Daith piercing is an ear piercing that a unique location in the ear, as it is positioned in the innermost cartilage fold. This part of the ear is otherwise known as the crus of the helix.
Popularity of Daith Piercings
The daith (pronounced “dayth” or sometimes very rarely “doth”) piercing has recently seen a surge in popularity due to the claims of benefits as an alternative treatment for migraine pain. Though there have been many claims that the daith piercing can offer migraine relief, it has not been scientifically proven.
Daith Piercing Jewelry
Depending on the makeup of each person’s cartilage fold, different jewelry is recommended when a daith piercing is concerned. Most people will wear either a ball closure ring or a curved bar in their daith piercing. Typically, the initial jewelry can be removed after 8 to 12 weeks.
As with many other piercings, is not recommended to remove the jewelry for extended periods of time. If you are unsure of how to change the jewelry, or if the piercing is adequately healed, it’s best to consult with one of our piercers. Only when your daith piercing is completely healed and you are comfortable manipulating the jewelry, should you consider changing the jewelry by yourself.
A normal daith piercing should allow 6 months to a year to heal with varying heal times depending on each of our client’s ability to heal.
Carefully following aftercare, proper placement, and jewelry quality can help reduce healing times. Being indirect, and reducing friction is very important, however, if you are in a position where you need to touch the piercing, your hands and the area around the piercing should be thoroughly cleaned beforehand.
Daith Piercing Aftercare
At Chronic Ink, our piercers will always give you appropriate aftercare advice that has been tailored specifically to the placement of your new piercing. It’s important that you follow the advice given by our piercing professionals as improper care can lead to the new piercing eventually becoming rejected by the body or other irritations and infections could incur.
