Where can I get my Belly Button Piercing?
This surface piercing is commonly placed in the top fold of the navel. Many people wonder if they are able to pierce their belly button if they have an excessive scar tissue more commonly known in the public vernacular as an “outie”. It is not advised to pierce that part of the skin, however, experienced piercing professionals will be able to assess and see if there are any safer and more creative solutions to getting your belly button pierced.
What is the history of Navel Piercings?
Historically, a piercing at the navel was seen as a sign of manliness and courage by the Egyptian Pharaohs in ancient history. It was believed to be a symbol of the transition from the human life to the eternity. Today it is one of the most popular piercing locations regardless of gender.
The healing process of a navel piercing can take anywhere from 6 to 8 months to completely heal (depending on how fast your body heals). To ensure a faster and healthier heal, avoid any contact with the new piercing.
Navel Body Jewelry
Like most initial piercings, it’s usually better to start with a piece of jewelry that is made for a quicker healing process. In the case of a new navel piercing, that would most likely be a traditional bent barbell. More complex jewelry should be considered after your new jewelry has completely healed.
Typical navel piercing jewelry usually includes: traditional curved barbells, circular barbells, captive bead rings, seamless rings, segment rings, and twisters.
Changing your belly button ring should only take place around 6 months after your piercing as it needs to be completely healed. If you are having any complications with your ring and need it to be changed, it is always best practice to consult with your piercer first. Typically, the initial jewelry can be removed after 4 to 6 weeks.
Caring for your Navel Piercing
Our piercers will always give you appropriate aftercare advice that has been tailored specifically to the placement of your new piercing. It’s important that you follow the advice given by our piercing professionals as improper care can lead to the new piercing eventually becoming rejected by the body and irritations or your piercing becomes infected. Contact us for more advice on proper piercing aftercare for your navel or any other type of body piercing.
How to clean your navel piercing
At Chronic Ink we recommend NeliMed Nelicleanse piercing aftercare. It is an isotonic, drug-free, preservative-free solution for cleaning your piercing during the healing period with no burning or stinging to irritate the pierced area.
